As I had a little time to spare this afternoon I thought that I would make cards for my neighbours instead of using the shop bought cards which I had on standby. I must confess that I ran out of time and energy in the run up to Christmas this year and resorted to using shop bought cards when my cute handmade cards ran out.
I decided to play with my Sparkle Pens and experiment with different background techniques. I started by heat embossing the various snowflake stamps to fill an A4 sheet of white cards using Versamark ink and white embossing powder. I then scribbled the Sheena Stamping pens onto a craft mat, added a little water to lighten the colours and painted over the heat embossed designs using a flat wide brush. Once the sheet was dry I buffed with some kitchen roll to remove any ink on the white heat embossing and I used up the remaining ink on some blank card which I used for the fourth card.
The beautiful penguins, fish and snowflakes were die cut from silver mirror card using the Apple Blossom Snowflake Penguin Die Set which was a free gift with Papercraft Essentials Issue 152. I used a few dots of tacky glue to stick the penguins to some scrap white card and cut them out to give them a white background.
I used these components to create a number of variations of this theme using the Frosted Essentials Paper pack and some white 6″x6″ cards. I created a couple of the matting layers by applying Colbolt Leonie Pujol Sparkle Pen to white card in the same way I used the other Sparkle Pens adding more water for the lighter layers. This is a really quick and simple way to create custom coloured matting layers without using your expensive paper stash.
I hope that you all have a lovely Christmas and that Father Christmas brings you some craft related presents tonight.
