My crafting is often very seasonal as I am inspired to make fresh floral cards in the spring, cards with a brighter colour pallet in the summer and darker autumnal coloured cards in autumn. As a result it feels strange thinking about Christmas cards when the summer sun is beaming through the window and I don’t start making Christmas cards until the first frosts of November. With approximately 50 cards to make and the build up to Christmas I tend to batch make my cards.
This year I have started with cute Christmas cards using the Cute Christmas Signature Collection by Sara Davies. I tend to make batches of approximately ten cards as this is sufficient cards to make in a couple of evenings without getting bored of a particular design. I die cut the parts for a heard of reindeer and then gently shaped each component using a flower shaping tool and a foam mat before layering with silicone glue. Whilst they were drying I used the Modern Lattice embossing folder to emboss some of the mirror card.
When batch making cards I have a folding table to the side of me which enables me to spread out the papers and elements that I might want to use on a particular card batch. This not only provides inspiration but it enables me to quickly assemble the cards once the main feature element is created without having to look for individual papers or embellishments. I try to look for ways to be economical with my papers gutting the middle of the lower layers using a craft knife so that they can be used on the top layers with mirror card in between and I use strips of paper and acetate left over from the square layers to make half layers or strips to go across my cards.
I also experimented with the Crafter’s Companion Foils to make a half background for one of the cards. It is simple to apply the adhesive transfer to the card with a lolly pop stick before applying the foil sheet and gently rubbing until the foil attaches to the adhesive.
