I want to start this blog with what is currently my favourite card design as it mixes Honey Doo Crafts stamp designs with velum and the fantastic sparkle that you get from WOW Embossing Powders. I have used this card design for engagement cards, anniversary cards and even a golden wedding card much to the delight of the recipients who are amazed by the 3d velum flowers that I learned to make at a Honey Doo workshop and the beautiful sparkle.
I started the card by stamping the Honey Doo Scrip stamp twice onto 160 gsm velum and heat embossing with Banoffee Pie WOW Embossing Powder. Take time to line up the script stamp so that the text appears to be continuous and take care when heat embossing the velum to hold it in the air and move the heat gun just as the powder starts to glimmer to avoid over heating. I then used a scoring board to score at the edge of the image and leave about an inch of vellum overlapping the back of the card to hide the adhesive.
I then used the remainder of the velum sheet to stamp and heat emboss the large and medium Honey Doo Flower Veins stamps. You will need three of each size for each flower. I cut out the flowers and then used the technique which Kay from Honey Doo taught us at a craft workshop last year to shape the velum using a kebab skewer. Amanda from Honey Doo demonstrates this technique on Hochanda from time to time and has recorded a fantastic Youtube video which shows you how to add this fantastic dimension to your cards.
Once I made the flowers I set them to one side to dry then stamped and heat embossed the heart from the Honey Doo Hearts a Flutter stamp. This stamp comes with a beautiful butterfly attached which can be carefully cut off and included when required. Take care when stamping this design as it is very detailed and needs even pressure all over the stamp to ensure that you capture all of that fantastic detail. I then used another technique that I learned from Amanda at Honey Doo and made my own glitter card layer by wiping a Versamark ink pad along the edge of my card and heat embossing with the same powder so that it perfectly matched the rest of the card.
Finally, all that was required was a little bit of hidden adhesive to hold the vellum down, a few foam pads to layer the card design, some silicone glue to attach the flowers and lots of AB gems for the flower centres and to add the finishing touch to the heart.
