Rose Trellis & Aqua Markers

As I have already mentioned, I am loving the Aqua Markers that I got for my birthday and today I thought that I would try some detailed colouring with them. This Rose Trellis stamp from Honey Doo Crafts makes a beautiful repeatable background image allowing the Friendship Quotes stamp to take centre stage.

I started by stamping and heat embossing the Rose Trellis stamp with Versafine Onyx Black ink and clear embossing powder remembering to apply the powder immediately after stamping each image. You can see the shine of the embossing powder on the crisp black image reflecting the photo studio lighting.

I then stamped and heat embossed the sentiment in the same way before colouring the edges using the Aqua Marker glycerine technique described in my Time Flies post. I then scribbled a couple of complementing Aqua Marker colours for the roses onto my mat, I think that I used Crimson and Blossom before mixing them with a drop of glycerine to soften the colour tones. I then used a fine paintbrush to paint first with the lighter colour and then add shading with the darker colour. I then repeated the process using Evergreen for the leaves.

One of the things that I love about Aqua Markers is how easy it is to correct minor mistakes with a clean brush, a drop of water and a piece of kitchen towel to blot away the excess colour. There may be a similar trick with alcohol markers but I have lost count of the number of images that I have scrapped as I had coloured over a line.
