I thought that I would share two birthday cards using the Steel Magnolia stamp set from Honey Doo Crafts demonstrating some Distress Oxide techniques.
I stamped the Magnolia stamp onto a square of white card using Versamark ink and silver heat embossing powder in opposite corners and stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of white card. I then painted the images with Pebeo Drawing Gum and allowed them to dry whilst I cleaned the brush with water. Pebeo Drawing Gum provides a water resistant layer that protects the area whilst you apply ink to the background and then rubs off leaving no residue.
Once the drawing gum was dry I splodged the Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers and Bundled Sage Distress Oxide Ink Pads onto a non-porous craft sheet and then spritzed with the Honeycomb Mica powder mixed into a water spray. I dipped the Magnolia stamped card and sentiment into the coloured puddles, drying in between dips until I was happy with the background. Once it was dry I then rubbed off the drawing gum and painted the flowers using Tattered Rose and Bundled Sage Distress Oxide Ink Pads splodged onto my craft mat and applied with a wet paintbrush.
Once dry, I layered the coloured card onto silver mirror card using 3d foam pads and mounted them onto a white card blank.
The second card started in the same way stamping and heat embossing in gold. I then applied the Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio, Bundled Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide inks using blending sponges to colour the panels before spritzing with Honeycomb Mica powder mixed into a water spray.
Once dry I layered the coloured card onto black card using 3d foam pads and mounted them onto a white card blank before finishing with some clear gems attached with tacky glue.
Painting the flowers using Distress Oxides gives a more opaque chalky result and the drawing gum gives a crisper definition which would be very difficult to achieve a wet ink background technique. This background technique gives a more slodgey result with white spaces whereas the blending technique gives smoother colour transitions.
