Time Flies & Aqua Markers

My darling husband bought me the entire Aqua Marker’s collection for my birthday last week and I have been experimenting with glycerine technique that I saw Sheena Douglass demonstrate at a craft show in Telford. I have previously struggled with some of the other inking techniques that I have tried as I can never quite get the shading right. For example, I could not get the shading right on this card coloured using Distress Oxides…

However, I have fallen in love with my Aqua Markers and this is my first attempt at Sheena’s glycerine technique…

I scribbled the Aqua Markers onto my new Tonic Essentials Easy Clean Craft Mat, which is perfect size at 14″x 14″ with an adhesive backing which keeps it in place on my craft desk, and poured a drop of glycerine onto the mat. I loaded a blending sponge first with the glycerine and then picked up some of the colour before blending onto the mat and then onto the card with a gentle circular motion. I found the addition of the glycerine more forgiving than  distress inks and my top tip would be to play first on some scrap card to test your colour as the dark aqua markers, such as the navy one that I used, blend to produce the most beautiful pastel colours.

The main image and sentiment stamps are from the Crafter’s Companion unmounted rubber stamp range (Time Flies and Say it with Time), which I have mounted onto EZ Mount for ease of use, and the Script background stamp is from Honey Doo Crafts. I use the Script background stamp for so many cards and it looks fantastic embossed with glitter powders on vellum as well as with the Versafine Smokey Grey ink and clear embossing powder that I used in these cards.

I coloured the stamped and embossed image using a small paint brush, a little bit of glycerine and my Aqua Markers. Once the image was dry I went over the butterflies with a clear sparkle pen to add a subtle shimmer.
